Beginning teachers – Professional Development Workshop with Gerard Alford
New teachers bring energy and enthusiasm to their classrooms. They also bring a specific set of needs. Appropriate mentoring, guidance, release time and scheduled time to plan lessons with colleagues is essential (Smith & Ingersoll). The aim of this full day workshop is to strengthen the beginning teacher's often-challenging journey as they move to proficient teacher. The beginning teachers' workshop is outlined below:
Planning meaningful and explicit lessons and efficiently using the itc Thinking Skills Framework and 4 Step Model.
Designing the lesson intention. Strategies and practical tools to ensure engaging starts to all lessons.
The 4 criteria (PIME) of cooperative learning. Practical cooperative tools for brainstorming, designing, understanding, reflecting and retention.
CRITICAL AND CREATIVE THINKING
Tools for critical thinking. Enhancing creative thinking through divergent thinking and practical creative thinking tools.

All beginning K-12, TAFE and emerging teachers.
Cost: $220.00 (inc. GST) includes a free copy of the beginning teachers' companion (valued at $39.95), workshop booklet and video classroom footage for in-school training.
